Job Summary
The Department of Pharmaceutical Services provides a full range of services for patients cared for by the UCSF Medical Center, as well as its providers and payers. These services include, but are not limited to, drug procurement, storage, and security; safe, accurate and timely preparation and distribution of drugs; clinical pharmacy services for patients; development of drug uses policies within the Medical Center; drug information services for clinicians and patients; and participation in technology assessment and quality assurance programs. The Department encompasses with the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, an academic campus unit within the School of Pharmacy, which has a primary responsibility for teaching professional courses in the PharmD curriculum, research, and public service. The Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Services share their philosophy of pharmaceutical care.
Under the department of Pharmaceutical Services, Outpatient Specialty Pharmacy provides pharmaceutical care to patients at Moffitt and Long Hospitals, UCSF Ambulatory Care Clinics and Comprehensive Cancer Centers, Mission Bay Hospitals and specialized services to researchers on campus. The Specialty Pharmacy Technician performs a wide range of pharmaceutical care functions to ensure patient access to appropriate medications. All pharmacy technicians are accountable to the outpatient manager/supervisor/operating pharmacist who is legally responsible by virtue of state licensure for the care and safety of patients served by Pharmaceutical Services.
Pharmacy technicians will be responsible for performing all activities related to specialty pharmacy medication processing and fulfillment as outlined by the job functions.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $36.05 - $44.91 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description
The Department of Pharmaceutical Services at UCSF has long been nationally recognized as one of the founding fathers for clinical pharmacy services, which was established in 1965. Today, the department continues to lead the profession through the integration of advanced technology & robotics, comprehensive pharmaceutical care and clinical services.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized/accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program
- Minimum two years’ experience as a Pharmacy Tech in hospitals or health care, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Good communication, both over telephone and in person
- Excellent interpersonal skills; Ability to work effectively with a large, diverse population including developing and maintaining positive inter-professional relationships between Pharmacy and Ambulatory clinics
- Ability to work in a fast paced, pressurized environment
- Ability to use sound judgment in responding to or referring questions by nurses, physicians, and other professional personnel
- Knowledge, skills, and ability to perform computer entries and other technological skills required to complete required tasks
- Math skills as appropriate to position
Preferred Qualifications
- Pharmacy Technician Certification; CPhT
License/Certification
- Licensed Pharmacy Technician by the California Board of Pharmacy and in good standing
